YACD’s Partnership with The Kuvuna Foundation

YACD is in partnership with an African local community-based organization called the Kuvuna Foundation (KF).  KF is based in the West Africa country of The Democratic Republic of Congo in the capitol city of Kinshasa.  Fully launched on April 21, 2021, the core purpose of this specific program is to provide YACD’s English Skills Literacy curriculum to promote the written, spoken & comprehension proficiency of the English language.  

This program consists of (21) primary French speaking secondary high school youth that come from very disadvantaged backgrounds.  Every student in this program has an identified interest in a career field that requires the proficiency of the English language at a professional level.   Program pictures of our youth learning will be added soon!

Dr. Ocheze Joseph

English Skills Literacy Framework Curriculum Designer

Dr. Ocheze Joseph is the mastermind designer behind YACD’s English Skills Literacy Curriculum.  She received her Bachelor Degree from Lincoln University, her Master of Science (M.S.) Reading from John Hopkins University & her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration from University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Joseph was born and raised in the US, but both her parents are from the beautiful country of Nigeria.  She is the wife to Dr. Shawn Joseph whom served as the first African American Superintendent of the Nashville Public School system.  They both own and operate Joseph and Associates, LLC. which is an educational consulting organization. 

For over 20 years, Dr. Ocheze Joseph has been a champion for youth. Her work in several classrooms has further driven her passion for teaching and learning. During her years as an assistant principal, principal intern, elementary principal and university lecturer, she has helped countless teachers and administrators understand best instructional practices.

Dr. Joseph served as a faculty member in Vanderbilt University’s Teaching and Learning Department for several years.  She currently serves as an Associate Professor in Howard University’s Curriculum and Instruction Department in Washington, D.C.
