Joy Ufomadu

University Administration Specialist

Joy Ufomadu currently serves as an Accessibility Specialist at NYU. She served previously as a Disability Accommodations Specialist for The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and a special education teacher at Paul W. Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  In concurrence with the Alabama State Department of Education Plan 2020, Joy has worked closely with secondary age students to prepare them for college and career readiness in her role as a special education teacher.

Joy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education & Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

Her experiences in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Alabama and subsequent experience as a substance abuse counselor have prepared her to support the unique needs of of youth and adults as they seek employment and transition into career fields.

She is the author of a children's book, titled Chinyere.  Joy's book details the experience of a young first generation American girl who finds that she must regain her confidence after being teased for having a unique name. Joy's inspiration for writing Chinyere stems from her own experiences of being teased and bullied for unique attributes directly related to her ethnic identify as a first-generation American.  Since releasing Chinyere, Joy has had the opportunity to share the book's message of self love, identity, culture, and diversity with several schools in and near the Black Belt Region of Alabama.

Joy's personal experience as a child of Nigerian immigrants and professional experience with providing college and career preparation to youth and adults have ignited her passion for supporting the youth of Africa in their pursuit toward their post-secondary career goals and aspirations.
